They are the sole species of [[The Court of Repose]], ruled by [[The Sleeping Queen]]. Nodders pursue Strange Meaning through transcendence of experience, asserting that detachment, unconsciousness, and retreat from sensation offer relief from suffering.

Among the Fey, Nodders are regarded as fragile, unsettling, and quietly dangerous, not because of violence, but because of how thoroughly they reject wakeful existence.

=History=

==Dark Age==

Nodders came into existence in the early Dark Age, circa NIR 1390, with the formation of [[The Court of Repose]]. In the aftermath of the War of Erasure, when many Fey philosophies turned toward endurance or control, the Court of Repose instead sought escape.

The Sleeping Queen taught that Strange Meaning could be found beyond experience itself, in states where sensation, desire, and awareness were suspended. Nodders were shaped to embody this doctrine, existing perpetually on the threshold between waking and oblivion.

==Dawn Age==

In the current era, Nodders remain confined largely to their Court’s domains. Their practices have grown more extreme over time, as gentler methods of transcendence have proven insufficient to sustain their philosophy.

=Cosmology=

[[The Court of Repose]] holds that Strange Meaning arises when experience is transcended. Pain cannot exist where awareness does not linger; desire cannot torment where consciousness is absent.

Nodders embody this belief by existing in a state of constant near-unconsciousness. Their ability to voluntarily lose and regain consciousness marks them as anomalous among the Fey, who are otherwise incapable of true unconsciousness.

To the Court, this ability is not a defect, but the highest blessing.

=Society=

Nodder society is built around transcendentalism, though in practice this pursuit has degraded into an escalating dependence on altered states of consciousness.

Within the Court:

* Meditation and withdrawal were once central practices.
* Over time, these were supplemented, then replaced, by hallucinogens, narcotics, and dream-inducing substances.
* Each generation requires stronger methods to achieve the same detachment.

The unsettling truth is that Nodders do not seek enlightenment so much as absence. When transcendence cannot be achieved by soft withdrawal, they pursue oblivion chemically or magically. A Nodder who is fully awake for too long is considered to be suffering.

=Ecology=

Nodders resemble Fairfolk, but in an exaggerated state of frailty. They are emaciated, pale, and semi-transparent. Their skin is fully translucent, like a thin membrane, revealing veins and faint outlines of bone and organs beneath.

They float as though suspended in water, hovering up to one meter above solid or liquid surfaces. They cannot truly fly, only drift.

Their most distinctive ability is voluntary unconsciousness. Nodders can fall unconscious at will and awaken just as easily, entering states indistinguishable from sleep, coma, or dream. While unconscious, they remain floating and physically stable.

Nodders favor quiet, enclosed environments saturated with narcotic vapors or dream-inducing flora. In places of noise, urgency, or emotional intensity, they appear distressed, as though pulled unwillingly toward wakefulness.
