Summary

This game was played in the Microscope system using Acrolon as the known setting. This was an early experiment for using Microscope to create history in an established game world, and was quite successful. The history created was as follows:

  • Start: The Abyss is Closed
  • Breaking of an Ancient Curse
    • Tainted dwarf souls captured during The Fall are left behind by the closing of the Abyss
    • Grim Silverson's abyssal spectre follows a faint memory to the Adamant Citadel in Moenia
    • Grim finds the Tomb of Sleeping Kings, and wakes himself up through the now breaking magic that causes the sleep
    • Grim re-awakens his people from their cursed slumber and is crowned King of the Adamant Citadel
    • Grim and his people are not quite right though, and these are dark dwarves
    • Grim II awakens the other Sleeping Kings, and they awaken their people and leave Adamant Citadel for their homes
  • The Age of Dragons
    • Dragons reappear and force the dwarves of Adamant Citadel to pay tribute
    • Grim IV creates an elite group of warriors called the Dragonspear that ends the Tyranny of the Wyrmsmeet by stealing their eggs
    • The dragons call upon Xidnak for vengeance, and Xidnak chastises his children, asks for the eggs back, and the dragons leave Adamant Citadel
  • The Struggle to Survive in a new land
    • Many Dwarven clans die in the harsh new world
    • Some dwarves who war with each other over old territories find themselves allying all too late, such as when the Bronzebeard clan leader died protecting the Silverfist's hall from the starving, cannibal Acrolon survivors, shaming them
  • Unification of the 9 Clans
    • The 9 clans unified under a single banner with a council to lead them
    • There was a rise and fall of guild princes that briefly threatened to usurp power form the council
    • The growing dwarven wealth leads to rivalry with Mercatia during this time, which causes the fall of the guild princes
    • Wotan Longbeard flees the burning of Goland's Delve and bargains with the Goliaths, creating a trade village and temple at the foot of their lands
    • Order of Dragon-Mages is founded
      • Wotan Longbeard travels to Flamespire Island to make a pact with Xidnak of legend (giving up his eye as the Old Price, drinking the blood of Xidnak, creating a bloodline of dragon mages)
  • Wotan Longbeard is crowned First Dwarven King
