Gilded Age 3160 PD - First gods are invested Arcadian civilization rises. They often build near the buried vaults, exploiting their gentle emanations of charon. The Morning and Evening Courts become formalized subdivisions of a unified civilization. Viewed from the future, Arcadian civilization is seen as a golden age, though the reality was not without its conflicts. They tended to be matters of intrigue, law, skulduggery, and culture, with wars being only small and sporadic. The Strange Sea is studied through lucid dreaming. It is considered an eccentric and potentially personally harmful pursuit, but not serious suppressed. The Weaver creates lake Dorolimni in the eastern Aplos. Develop realmjamming ships and go exploring. Discovery of Barigor, locals capture realmjammers and unleash the Barigor Invasion upon the universe. Barigor invasion comes to Pelithos. Alliance with Acrolon and the Fourth Realm repels it. Surviving gorukar populations take refuge in the caves of the Fidion Ori and the coastal marshes of the southern Cypress Coast. In return for their aid against the Barigor, the minotaurs are granted lands around the Bay of Pearls, and the centaurs gain lands in the Aplos. Pelithos joins the Empire of Acrolon, lots of trade and cultural exchange. Significant human populations develop, and many fey travel to the other realms as well. Anyot's Curse is transmitted from Acrolon, through the arrival of ferals and continued inter-realm traffic. Fey ferals arise. The ferals are seen as victims or monsters. Those able to control their instincts remain in Arcadian civilization, thought they tend to become ghettoized or dwelling in what amount to reservations. Those who can't are driven out to lurk in the wilds, far outmatched by Arcadian might. Satyrs (from quicklings) Pythians (from oreads) Harpies (from alseids) Kynokephaloi (from alseids) Psarikampoi (from neriads) Apisids (from sprites) Elaphids (from dryads) Small populations of other feral fey persist, collectively called Therianths. The Threefold Coven coalesces among the most serious students of Strange. It has a public face, but keeps most of its activities and knowledge secret. Females are deemed better dreamers than males, who are excluded or given only peripheral roles. Their minds are gradually corrupted by Strange. The Great Library of Epolosus is founded, and the city grows into a major center of learning and civilization. Ard visits Pelithos, gains disciples who spread the doctrine of Stoicism 1503 PD - Time storm begins 1401 PD - Time storm ends, Shattering happens Shattered Age 1401 PD - Shattering happens, Abyss is formed, Tanari invade, Obyrith flee to the Horizon Godswar Pelithine gods shattered into the Mantles. The Dancer sinks into the Strange Sea and into a Locus, becoming the White Tree With the death of the Judge, the vaults begin to leak significantly, spreading charon. Vaultlands form around the Vaults Titans begin gathering power and followers, subtly at first, but growing bolder over the centuries. At first they do not reveal their full intent, save to their most loyal followers, and in the new nations fury and authority coexist for a time. Giants and other fury-born monsters spread from the vaults. Arcadian civilization collapses from cosmological upheaval, lack of divine guidance, economic collapse from the end of the Empire, and the loss of so much territory to the vaultlands. Time of Heroes, Mantles are claimed The mantles can't create new heraldic foci, but can take existing foci and bind them to new bearers. "Relic foci" (those that already exist) become important, passed carefully to new bearers. Between the mantles, servitors, and heralds, things keep running. Arete is developed, exploiting the power of charon within people; imitheoi lead the way in developing schools within their purviews The Theagonas is underway, with imitheoi scheming against one another and struggling for ascendancy. The ferals spread and multiply, breaking out of the marginal status the Arcadians kept them in. Damastor, a human, claims the Edicts, founds the nation of Aletheia in western Dytikos. Eventually becomes Enthroned and his nation becomes one of the great powers of Pelithos. Humans, centaur, quicklings, alseids, and others coexist in the nation. He founds the Dikastes as his keepers of the law. A few clans of Pythians, armed with multiple Mantles, found and grow the Pythian Empire. They initially capture the Fidion Ori (which gets this name from them). As the Labyrinth grows beneath, driving up the mountains and making them less habitable, they capture the coastal lowlands to the north. Other races are permitted as second class citizens or slaves. Oreads fare best, gaining some status as those best suited to the continued exploitation of the mountains. The Pythians become another major power. Gorukar displaced from the Fidions by the Pythians migrate down onto the plains. They move into the spreading Avigian Barrens, even as everyone else is abandoning the old cities there. They are mutated, becoming cyclops. Gorukar in the swamps of Antolikos hear the whispers of the titans in the growing Aphxanamos. They inhabit the lands as the dryads retreat, mutating into the leukrotta. Harpies claim roosts in the outer Opagos and Synnephian Ori. Those deeper in the Ori (titancultists) mutate to become windfuries. As the Maelstrom grows, the neriads withdraw from the Southern Islands, abandoning them to the psarikampoi. Psarikampoi who heed the titans of the Maelstrom and dwell in the vaultsea become mutated into Saltbound. Other kampoi range across the isles and coasts, tribes capturing territory here and there. A major tribe wars with Aletheia over the Dytikan Archpelago. They raid the kingdoms of Epolosia. Thalestris, a survivor from the Arcadian age (about 500 years old at this point), claims the Loom and commits herself to rebuilding Arcadia. She founds Tapiseri in Potamia, growing to become one of the most powerful and feared (and longest-lived) Imitheoi, eventually claiming a Throne. The Azer/Dactyloi emerge from the Kyterian Vault, conquer the surrounding mountains. Oread refugees flee into the desert to the south and the Pythian Empire to the west. Kynes spread rapidly. The Pythians keep them out of the Fidion coast and mountains, but they roam the Aplos, desert, and surrounding lands. In Antolikos, they roam the wilds. They fare well in the Opagos, mutating to become the Dogs of Winter. ???, the Pyxis, extorts riches from many kingdoms with the threat of Dooms. When he is finally brought down by ???, who survived a Doom, he promised his followers a terrible Doom if they did not bury his riches. His tomb lies in a karststone spire in Potamia, obvious to all, but seldom/never intruded upon. It is said to be filled with traps and Dooms, and Thalestris has foretold that if it is fully breached, Dooms within will be unleashed. Her soldiers guard it, keeping would-be robber out. ???, claimed the Pyxis and went on to be a caretaker, seldom/never unleashing Dooms. Well regarded by songs and history. The Jewel passes through (chews up and spits out might be a better term) a series gluttons, lechers, and mad hoarders. Most were short-lived, but ??? hung on, becoming a vile and decadent legend in his own time. He left many of his Treasure-Houses sealed within magical ice, containing his vast collection of concubines, servants, wealth, and objects of art and power. A Helm arose in Antolikos, major battles against Tapiseri, the Vasileia, minotaurs. His time was brief but glorious and terrible, before he was destroyed. He founded the Mastigos, which survived him to the present, founding ties with slavers in the Southern Isles, Pythia, and elsewhere. The victorious general tried to take the Helm and not use it, but it warped him, as Thalestris predicted. The Owl broke his army and tried to lock the Helm away, but it escaped to find new bearers. A number of Wreath kingdoms rose and fell, some in the Vasileia, some in Potamia, some in Epolosia. They tended to be brief, glorious, and unstable, built around a cult of personality, not sturdy law and common culture. Amintah, long-standing Cornucopia holds her Mantle throughout the rest of the age. The traditions of the Cornucopia's pilgrimages, and the fairs and traveling festivals that surround them, arise. The Votaniko is formed from scholars who accompany her. Pallas, an oread driven from the Kyterians by the Azer, claims the Aegis, founds Pyrgos in the rapidly desertifying eastern Aplos. She battles a powerful obyrith-cult of the Wind Which Destroys in the desert. Young Nicomedes claims the Owl. He comes to "apprentice" himself to Pallas, becomes her right-hand and silent, unrequited admirer. They found the Lyceam Stratigikis, the Strategon, school of strategy, in Pyrgos.

  • Achridana, princess of a realm in pre-Asphodelian Lands claims the Oboloi. The Great Crypt of Taphos is begun to house her. She outlives her homeland. Taphos continues to grow.

??? the cycle should happen a few times

  • Cult of the Three formed
  • Crino holds the Wand
  • Madaera becomes the Eye.
  • Madaera usurps the Wand from her mother.
  • Tanith claims the Eye
  • The Sisters of Stone, a pythian titancult, come into conflict with the empire when their masters' true plans to escape are revealed. They flee into the Labyrinth, where they mutate into gorgons. Their continued clashes with the pythians cut into the pythian's access to the mineral riches of the mountains. The Sisters call upon oreads to abandon their serpentine masters and join the cult, and many do.
  • Within the Pythian Empire, the Viper and other collaborators secretly breed pythians with mind servitors (coatl), resulting in the Lamia. They are kept concealed for fear or the ire of all manner of cosmic beings, and used as a secret police of the empire.
  • The Threefold Covern carves out a nation. Its mistresses are becoming increasingly Strange-corrupted and cruel. They secretly eat mortal flesh at their ceremonies.
  • Lysagoras claims the Key
  • with sailing routes along north and south coasts so disrupted by the vaultlands (and Pythia), caravans across the desert and Aplos become a major factor of trade. The chain of caravan cities forms: Vraveio and Doschae as ports for goods flowing from Antolikos, Pyrgos Katerga and lesser cities as waystations. Epolosus, Limani, and Aletheia are the endpoints and sources of other goods. Pythia raids caravans and ships, though there is some trade as well.

  • Tirigan Spiralhorn, a satyr, claims the Pyxis.
  • Koretto, a loyal daughter of Tapiseri, claims the Sickle. Thalestris brings her into her circle, and first conceives the idea of reuniting the Mantles of the Weaver. She reaches out to Amintah, the Cornucopia, but Amintah does not trust her. Thalestris establishes the Harvest, her assassins, under Koretto's leadership.
  • Bardelys claims the Wreath?
  • Paraskevi, prior Trident
  • Nemerte claims the Horn.
  • Minotaurs grow Margaritari into a great port, gateway to the Vasileia. Their neighbors repeatedly don't like their tarrifs and influence, and make war on them. Usually the attackers lose, but even when they manage to sack the city a bit, it is retaken and restored.

747 PD - The Fall begins, Lords of Necessity are killed

  • Acrolonian dragons strike deal with Nexia and vanish, drakelings arise. The Old Dragon of Pelithos seizes the Jewel from ??? the Collector, its former bearer. Thus it is protected from the Fall, while all other Pelithine dragons die out or mutate into lesser, drakish forms.

731 PD - Suns goes out

Dark Age 731 PD - Suns goes out The divine realms of Pelithos crash down onto their mortal realm. Erebus comes to be and temenoi are scattered over the land. The ability to bind relic foci to mortals is lost, heralds cease to exist. Achridana and Nexia collaborate to develop reincarnation. Achridana is able to craft several heraldic foci, which she gives to her inner circle of servants, the Achridanoi. She has the depths of Taphos expanded to connect to Erebus. Metaphysical chaos is unleashed across Pelithos. Imitheoi create havens around themselves, and refugees cluster around. The titancults take in those who swear to their cause, protecting them within the vaultlands. Elsewhere plagues, mutations, and madness wrack the land. The first servitors begin inhabiting Pelithos, claiming domains for themselves as Archons, usually out of duty, to stabilize the collapsing Apparatus, but ambition and personal interests grow over time, and further rogues claim temenoi down the years. A powerful life-servitor binds himself to the Chemaros river, taking its name. The Titanomachia erupts as the titans try to break open the vaults, deploying all their gathered power and forces. The Imitheoi fight back. The Key calls together the imitheoi on Mount Kyterios for a last ditch effort. The Key is Enthroned and they pull a major temenos to the summit and enact a ritual to seal the vaults. The imitheoi swear to answer the Key's Summons should this happen again. The defeated Dactyloi are forced to construct the Akropolis atop Mount Kyterios, a monument to the divine victory, a meeting place and neutral ground for their business, and a powerful temenos at which they can enact rituals. Servitors of each domain are set to guard and steward it. The founding of the Akropolis becomes the common reference the new kingdoms use to mark the passage of years on Pelithos. Amintah tries to tend to the earth during the chaos, but her bond with the Cornucopia steadily weakens. It deserts her in a time of stress and she perishes. Her loss opens the way for even more chaos. A series of short-term bearers hold it, each nowhere near ready to stem the disruptions, and soon abandoned by the Mantle. 716 PD - The Fall ends Damastor's power protects the heartland of Alethia from disaster and mutation. Humans of aletheia become so predominant (as so many others die off) that "aletheiad" becomes synonymous with human. Myrmidons arise from humans mutated into ant-like form, a successful allaxe sub-species, dwell beneath the ground to escape the influence of the dark. They are changed by highly unstable temenos in the eastern lands of Antolikos; it is now a major shrine of theirs, at the heart of their territory. Great Migration of fey into the Strange Sea to escape the Fall and Endless Night At least some members of almost all races go. All neriads go, becoming the tritons of the Court of Repose (and perhaps other forms in other courts) The Threefold Coven goes, becoming the Court of Three, its members completing their transformation into hags Many satyrs go to the Laughing Court Halisthertes claims the Cornucopia as things calm down a bit. Elves and quicklings survive in Potamia. The Loom foresees the perils of Night corruption, she bargains with the Pyxis for aid. From the Third Lock of the Pyxis, the combinations discerned by the Loom, and the effects molded by the Sickle, is unleashed the Queensplague, shorting the lifespan of marrow fey who contract it to about twice that of a human. The forced shorter-term outlook, combined with the Fall, shift them toward Reason from Memory, making them more like humans, giving rise to the Nimae and Velosi. Oreads escape massive Strange and Night corruption by hibernating as stones for long spans. Dryads do likewise. The Pythian Empire drowns itself in its own blood as the Fall unleashes the tempered and suppressed instinct-minds (from Anyot's Curse) of its people. Only lamia are immune. Darklings arise from Night-corrupted quicklings. Population of elves is transformed by dream encounter into maenads, tribes based around vestige patrons arise. A population of Fury-infused titancultist elves lose their native form and become proteans, free-fleshed shapeshifting doppelgangers. They're also Night corrupted murderous fuckers, a secret society of serial killers. A rare but memorably awful allaxe sub-species. Various small populations of mutants survive the plagues, madness, and corruption following the Fall. They are collectively termed Allaxe. Lysagoras is mortally wounded by titancultists. He passes the Key to his windfury disciple, Red-Winged Eurynome. Many fear she will turn to the titans and hunt her, but she ultimately proves a staunch servant of authority. She creates an ice city in the glaciers of Opagos, a home for civilized harpy (also a place where the imitheoi who don't trust her can't get to her), her power protecting them from the Endless Night. The imitheoi learn to craft demi-foci. These and relic foci can be used by anyone with suitable authority lore to access temenoi. "Democratic" heraldry develops, allowing civilization to spread out from the sanctuaries of the imitheoi, stabilizing Pelithos. The Oboloi and Nexia develop reincarnation. The Naiads arise from the elven river-folk and the Archon Chemaros. 400 PD - Acrolonian invasion of Pelithos begins scouting escalates from raiding and naval war mass slaughter of tritons by Voice of the Wind at the Battle of Red Tide. Some souls encounter Mother Night on the way to the underworld, follow her for revenge, becoming the vathys Trident Paraskevi's fleet is cornered by Acrolonians. Upon his death, the Mantlestorm consumes the remnants of both fleets. Young Salicar discovers the Trident in the aftermath. Alethia is betrayed by the Viper and conquered by Acrolon, King Damastor is slain, dubbed the Hegemony of Pelithos. with its triton allies broken, Trident's navy scattered, Acrolon has open access to the whole of Pelithos. Big Isle and eastern Dytikos captured. The Three begin collecting shadow lore, for power and to better understand their foe. the Helm begins infusing his chosen centaur with Night, creating the Nyxian Centaurs 330 PD Invasion in full swing

  • Cornucopia Halisthertes loses the Mantle, unable to travel through Acrolonian territory. Series of short-term bearers.
  • advance halted in the east of Antolikos by the Horn's creation of Erimia as a no man's land (acrolonian nobles hunt there (and are hunted), but can't press through with armies). Margaritari and the Vasileia are subjugated.
  • advance halted in the southwest of Dytikos by the Oboloi's Curse of Asphodel, army of the dead brought forth
  • advance on Dytikos halted along the banks of Chemaros, held by the Aegis and Owl from Pyrgos.
  • Loom, Jewel, and Wreath kingdoms keep economy and industry alive, feeding the front lines; Wreath forms Symmachia Velos, alliance of cities
  • titancults and titan races join the struggle for Pelithos
  • the Viper is ganked by several imitheos in retribution for betraying Alethia. Septimus, the new Viper is an Acrolonian half-breed courtier of the Hegemony. He throws in with the locals.

250 PD - Darkest Hour

  • Pallas is slain by an uberdemon, Owl is Enthroned and takes over as protector of Pyrgos, it is encircled and besieged but holds
  • Mask cults adopt shadow magic
  • Achridana's great Crypt of Taphos is penetrated, she is slain, Acrolonian armies push through the gap. Fate of the Oboloi remains unknown (mantle captured by Acrolon? Now in hands of a secret bearer?)
  • Wreath meets with Lucidus, together they rekindle the sun. Bardelys is able to craft several heraldic foci, giving them to his Sacred Suns.

0 PD - The sun returns

Dawn Age 0 PD - The sun returns Renewed counteroffensive against the Acrolonian invaders 47 PD - Lascivia slain, Aeon awakens, Abyss is sealed The Reconquest begins in earnest Leda holds the Cornucopia, and is at last able to travel enough to hold the Mantle. The old pilgrimages haltingly begin again. Helm Tarkhundaro carves into the western Hegemony, conquers much of the Aplos west of Chemaros. The Lamia infiltrate the lowlands near their mountains, both coast and plains. Trident Salicar founds a nation in the Boreals, his captains as the new lords. Not all isles are fully willing. He begins extending his reach through the Boreals, Fidion Coast, and to Port Limani (where he clashes with Chemaros). Though still mostly raiding the Hegemony, some of his captains are getting less picky, raiding Fidion and Symmachian ships as well, straining relations. Night-heralds abandon the western Hegemony. Many sail away in commandeered ships, eventually establishing themselves as the Corsairs of Nighthold. The rest join the Helm or Mastigos. Cult of the Three, Shadowguild, night-heralds, and non-demonblooded officers overthrow the Hegemony on Big Isle in a coup. The surviving Manus Amantis flee into the wilds of Antolikos. Dragons begin returning. A young dragon joins up with the new government in Big Isle. The Three help topple Caduceus Arios to free up a Throne, Epolosus is wracked by plague and seeded by Asphodel, many flee. Theagonas back to normal. The Helm goes after the Spear, trying to stabilize his Throne by removing the other Enthroned Reaver Mantle. Danae claims the Aegis, comes to Pyrgos to apprentice to the Owl. He's kind of torn up about this. 64 PD - Present Day

Primordial Age

The Lords of Necessity imprison the titans (primordials) within vaults built into the Apparatus. The Elysian Age (aka the Golden Age; synonymous with the Gilded Age)

Under the guidance of the gods, a common civilization flourishes on Pelithos. Members of all races and cultures live in relative peace. Magic and artifice flourish; great cities and wonders are built. [-1500] Titanomachia, end of the Elysian Age Aeon is slain. During the convulsions of the cosmos, the vaults open and the titans escape. The gods and titans wage the Titanomachia. The titans are reimprisoned, but the gods are broken and dying. Each of their divine foci shatter into three parts, becoming the Mantles (save for the Witch, whose Yew Wand remains whole, while her portfolio of divine sorcery fades away instead). The Elysian civilization is shattered by the struggle. Syntrivian Age (aka the Silver Age; synonymous with the Shattered Age)

[-1499] The Age of Heroes Titan cults arise among the desperate survivors. Beasts and blights unleashed during the Titanomachia continue to ravage the land. Around the now exposed Vaults, primal energy continues to seep forth, creating the strange vaultlands around them. Mortals begin to claim the Mantles, striving against the forces of the titans and battling to provide their peoples with security and sustenance. [-1300] The Theagonas Begins With the titanic forces pushed back into the vaultlands, young nations begin to spread. Their imitheoi patrons come into conflict, beginning the political and metaphysical struggles for dominance that come to be known as the Theagonas. The imitheoi discover that the Mantles can be stolen or passed to new bearers. Hypnos goes Strange as his portfolio falls off the Aparatus Demeter, Hades, and Hermes work to repair and operate the processes of death The bearer of the Edicts forms the Dikastes. Cult of the Dreamer Cult of the Rose Cult of the Unseen Cult of the Vine Varkares Bow's society of athletes Key's primal champions Epidromian Age (aka the Iron Age; synonymous with the Dark Age)

Seekers of lore begin to study arcane magic pieced together from Acrolonian debris Hecate gathers a cult of wizards and necromancers, Hermes thief-cult does likewise with less dark wizards Dragons return Titans imprisoned. • Anyot's Curse is transmitted from Acrolon, through the arrival of ferals and continued inter-realm traffic.  Fey ferals arise.  The ferals are seen as victims or monsters.  Those able to control their instincts remain in Arcadian civilization, thought they tend to become ghettoized or dwelling in what amount to reservations.  They are mortal in an ageless society.  Those who can't fit in are driven out to lurk in the wilds, far outmatched by Arcadian might.- satyrs (from alseids)- pythians (from oreads)- harpies (from grigora)- psarikampoi (from neriads)- mandragora (from dryads)- small populations of other feral fey persist, collectively called Therianths.
  • The Threefold Coven coalesces among the most serious students of Strange.  It has a public face, but keeps most of its activities and knowledge secret.  Females are deemed better dreamers than males, who are excluded or given only peripheral roles.  Their minds are gradually corrupted by Strange.
  • The Great Library of Epolosus is founded, the city grows into a major center of learning and civilization.
  • Ard visits Pelithos, gains disciples who spread the doctrine of Stoicism

1503 PD - Time storm begins 1401 PD - Time storm ends, Shattering happens

- the first stars fall on Pelithos, shaken loose by Aeon's fall, beginning the vaultlands of Aphaxanamos, the Maelstrom, the Labyrinth.- the cracked stars over Avigia and the Synnephian Ori radiate down their power, establishing those vaultlands. Shattered Age:

1401 PD - Shattering happens, Abyss is formed, Tanari invade, Obyrith flee to the Horizon

  • Godswar

- Pelithine gods shattered into the Mantles.  The Dancer's Torc sinks into the Strange Sea and into a Locus, becoming the White Tree- With the death of the gods, the Mount Kyterios (the Fireheart) and the Opagos (the Iceheart) begin to leak, creating their vaultlands.- Charon leaks from the vaults, suffusing the realm. - Titans begin gathering power and followers, subtly at first, but growing bolder over the centuries.  At first they do not reveal their full intent, save to their most loyal followers, and in the new nations fury and authority coexist for a time.- Giants and other fury-born monsters spread from the vaults. - What scars are left on Pelithos from the Godswar?

  •  Arcadian civilization collapses from cosmological upheaval, lack of divine guidance, economic collapse from the end of the Empire, and the loss of territory to the vaultlands.
  •  the ferals break free of control, spreading and multiplying- kampoi spread rapidly, challenging all coasts and isles- mandragora spread through Potamia and its neighboring regions, lurking in the newborn Aphxanaos- satyrs flourish on both continents- harpies occupy the high places, particularly the mountains of Antolikos- pythians flourish in Dytikos
  • Time of Heroes, Mantles are claimed

- Three Pythian imitheoi (Mask, Bow, and Spear) found the Pythian Empire on the Akti Phidion.  Pythians from across the realm flock to it.  It grows into a major power of the age.  They subjugate the oreads of the Phidion Ori and driven the remnant gorukar from their caves to occupy the growing Avigian Barrens in the Aplos, where they begin to mutate into Cyclops. - Fathomless and Blood Tide founded in the Maelstrom - As the Maelstrom and kampoi threats to the neriad domains in the Southern Isles grow, most neriads withdraw to the Boreals and other coastal holdings.  The Unyielding Seven remain, united by the Wreath Hekuba.  They gradually fall into obsession and death, turning to the Threefold Coven and Strange death to carry on their fight. - Gida's satyr hordes ravage the Aplos and Aletheia- Nor struggle to hold their lands in Aletheia- Grigora and Centaurs band together in the Aplos, forming symbiotic tribes

  • The Immortals create the Council of Archons, empowering a group of greater servitors to ride herd on the imitheoi and see that they perform their duties.

- The Twins slay the Gypsy King and claim the Oboloi at the behest of the Archons of Death.

  • The Theagonas is underway, with imitheoi scheming against one another and struggling for ascendancy.

Dytikans

  • neriads and alseid inhabitants clash with kampoi* Aletheian influence spreads* A major tribe of kampoi from the Southern isles wars tries to conquer the Dytikan Archpelago and the bay south of Katerga.

Aletheia

  • Damastor, a human, claims the Edicts, founds the nation of Aletheia in western Dytikos.  Eventually becomes Enthroned and his nation becomes one of the great powers of Pelithos, its power spreads to influence its neighbors.  Humans, centaur, quicklings, neriads, alseids, and others coexist in the nation.- He founds the Dikastes as his keepers of the law.- Wars with the Pythian Empire over territory and influence.

Epolosia

  • Satyr tribes trouble the region.  Kampoi raid the coasts of Epolosia from the Southern Isles.
  • Epolosia is a land of warlords, city-states, and tribes, vying with each other.
  • Achridana, princess of a petty kingdom in Epolosia claims the Oboloi.  The Great Crypt of Taphos is begun to house her.  She outlives her homeland.  Taphos continues to grow.
  • Aletheia leads several wars to conquer and civilize the region, but is rebuffed.
  • Led by the centaur Caduceus Arakatha (?), several tribes take the Great Library of Epolosus, and found the first of the Epolosian Republics around it.  It becomes the metaphorical heart of the region, a beacon of learning.  The Caduseus is not the ruler, but a cultural icon.  Many forms of Arete will arise there, and a series of Caduseuses dwells there, teaching in the halls of medicine.
  • The warlords and city-states are gradually unified into the other Epolosian Republics, fractious but beginning to unify against outside threats such as Pythia, Aletheia, the kampoi, etc.
  • Some satyr tribes form peaceful relations with the republics, others remain a thorn.
  • the hetirae arise in the Epolosian Republics, a mix of learning and pleasure, they form the Rose / Trianta society among themselves, and it spreads form there.
  • Erdoxos, fellow of the school of medicine is expelled for his barbaric experiments, but he is brilliant and claims the Caduceus and eventually becomes Enthroned (visits plague and biohorror on those small minds who could not appreciate his work).  Embarks on all manner of terrible experiments and creations.

The Aplos / Golden Waste

  • Tribes of centaurs and quicklings rule the plains (quicklings ride them, shoot arrows and handle ropes, like a master-blaster pairing).
  • Gorukar displaced from the Fidions by the Pythians migrate down onto the plains.  They move into the spreading Avigian Barrens, even as everyone else is abandoning the old cities there.  They are mutated, becoming Cyclops.
  •  Satyrs spread rapidly.  The Pythians keep them out of the Phidion coast and mountains, but they roam the Aplos, desert, and surrounding lands.
  • Pallas, an oread refugee fleeing from the Azer conquest, claims the Aegis, founds Pyrgos at Dorolimni, in the eastern Aplos which is rapidly desertifying under the influence of the Fireheart.  She battles a powerful obyrith-cult of the Wind Which Destroys in the desert.
  • Young Nicomedes claims the Owl.  He comes to "apprentice" himself to Pallas, becomes her right-hand and silent, unrequited admirer.  They found the Lyceam Stratigikis, the Strategon, school of strategy, in Pyrgos.
  • with sailing routes along north and south coasts so disrupted by the vaultlands (and Pythia), caravans across the desert and Aplos become a major factor of trade.  The chain of caravan cities forms: Vraveio and Doschae as ports for goods flowing from Antolikos; Pyrgos, Katerga and lesser cities as waystations.  Epolosus, Limani, and Aletheia are the endpoints and sources of other goods.  Pythia raids caravans and ships, though there is some trade as well.

Phidion Coast / Phidion Ori

  • A few clans of Pythians, armed with multiple Mantles (Bow, Spear, and Mask), found and grow the Pythian Empire.  They initially capture the Phidion Ori (which gets this name from them). War with Aletheia, war with plains tribes, Epolosus, etc.- pythians were avid archers in memory of the Bow

Kyterian Ori

  • Oread kingdoms falter as the Vault of Fire grows stronger, then the Azer emerge from Kyterios, conquer the surrounding mountains.  Oread refugees flee into the desert to the south and the Pythian Empire to the west.

Chemaros / The Limani Gap (?)

  • the river Chemaros keeps the lands along its banks cooler and more fertile, despite the growing heat of the Fireheart.  Civilization contracts to its banks, pressed by the perils of the desert, hostile satyrs, etc.  Refugees from the oread kingdoms conquered by the Azer and those fleeing Avigia join them.  They are pulled between Pythia and the Epolosian Republics.- they become conduits for trade between the Boreals and Epolosia (as the Maelstrom blocks the water route), and market towns for cattle and such from the Aplosian centaurs.- Port Limani (a major port since Arcadian days) remains nominally free but heavily dependent on the goodwill of Pythia, a melting pot of pythians, islanders (many pirates) and traders from Antolikos.  its rulers pay enough tribute to Pythia to generally a degree of independence.

- maybe an imitheos could dwell in Port Limani, further supporting its independence

Boreals

  • pirates against Pythia, also raiding/conquest targets of Pythia.  Fluid deals are stuck with Aletheia to harry its Pythian rival.
  • trade is difficult across the growing Frozen Expanse, daring Boreal traders make the trip, bringing goods to and from Vasileia and Calcaria.
  • Azer fireships push out, extending their power.

Southern Isles

  • As the Maelstrom grows, the neriads withdraw from the Southern Islands, abandoning them to the psarikampoi (save for the Unyielding Seven).
  • Psarikampoi who heed the titans of the Maelstrom and dwell in the vaultsea become mutated into Saltbound.  Other kampoi range across the isles and coasts, tribes capturing territory.
  • By mid-Age, the Epolosian Republics, Vasileian kingdoms, and Aletheia are vying for colonial control of the Southern Isles, to control the sea trade route.  It's a rough and tumble frontier, pirates, privateers, island freeholds, etc.
  • the titancult that will become Deadwater is founded and grows

Antolikos

  • Strakas, a neriad Helm, founds Strakapolis on the coast of Vasileia, conquers the surroundings.  The Helm remains in his line as they murder each other for it for a few centuries.  Most are weak and decadent, but one strong granddaughter, Eneadis, revives the city's power for a time.
  • A satyr supplicant of the Fingersmith gathers a legendary guild of thieves and bandits about him.  He robs kings and warlords across Antolikos.  Several notable guilds/bands/secret societies descend from his crew, still supplicants.
  • a Helm arose in Antolikos, major battles against Tapiseri, the Vasileia, minotaurs. The Owl broke his army and tried to lock the Helm away.  He succeeded for a short time, but the surge in Night at the Dark Age set it free to find new bearers.
  • a "cult" of the Ruinous Muse spreads in the Vasileia and Potamia (except in Tapiseri, where it is banned and purged; now the Loom likens her new revolutionary opponents to the old dream addicts, a rot in the nation), like a network of psychic opium dens, where individuals feel compelled to enter, experience the intoxicating but self-destructive dreams there, and perhaps infect others.  It smolders like a low fire across the land, degrading and withering.  Agents of the White Tree and flocks of his dark birds begin to appear in the dreams, and in time, it seems he conquers the dens of nightmare from within the Strange Sea, transforming them.  The network become known as the Empire of Dreams, stands as a parallel power structure within many nations, like a church.  The Dreamer is Enthroned during this time.  It has old "abbeys" in many cities and remote places, out in the Tail isles, etc.  It has faded since they heyday, but some still operate as shrines of the White Tree.  Others are tasty ruins, rife with Strange.
  • Nemerte claims the Horn.  (might she be a kyne?)

Potamia / Cypress Coast

  • Dryads found the city of Naos, escaping the chaos of mainland Antolikos.  They become legendary shipwrights.
  • Much later in the age, Pythians make pushes against Naos and the Cypress Coast.  Naos is captured for a time, and a foothold is created on the coast, but they are later liberated by local, Boreal, and Potamian forces organized by Thalestris (?)
  • Thalestris, a survivor from the Arcadian age (about 500 years old at this point), claims the Loom and commits herself to rebuilding Arcadia.  She founds Tapiseri in Potamia.  It is touch and go, struggling against other powers of Potamia, raids from the leukrotta hordes.  She expands, conquering neighbors, or winning them with diplomacy or economics.  He kingdom becomes a steady rock in the whirlwind.  She grows to become one of the most powerful and feared (and longest-lived) Imitheoi, eventually claiming a Throne.
  • The traditions of the Hekaton develop in Potamia and the Vasileia during the Time of Heroes, and spread.  Thalestris tries to outlaw and suppress them in Tapiseri, but has limited success.
  • ???, the Pyxis, extorts riches from many kingdoms with the threat of Dooms.
  • ???, claimed the Pyxis and went on to be a caretaker, seldom/never unleashing Dooms.  Well regarded by songs and history, save for his part in the Queensplague and death early in the Dark Age.

Aphxanamos

  • The holdout gorukar kingdom in southern Potamia is gradually swallowed by the growing Aphxanamos.  The gor mutate into leukrotta.

Opagos

  •  Satyrs roam Opagos, fury-mutating and creating the titancult The ??? of Winter.
  • Synnephian oreads settle some lands in the southern Opagos.  Their purchase is loose; the most staying influence is the creation of some Keywarden monasteries.

Synnephian Ori

  • Oreads build mountain kingdoms (Tibet-like) in the Synnephian Ori and lower peaks.  They trade charon and minerals to the lowlands (Margaritari, etc).
  • Lysagoras, a Synnephian oread, claims the Key.  He tries to deal peaceably with the titans and titancults, but their plots gradually become clear to him.  He establishes the Keywardens as a fury-kung fu monastic order among the Synnephian domains.  They become a significant cultural force there, and spread.  They war with the windfuries.  Their reach extends across to the southern Opagos, but is never as extensive there (just a kingdom or city or two)
  • Harpies claim roosts in the outer Opagos and Synnephian Ori.  Those deeper in the Ori (titancultists) mutate to become windfuries.

Vasileia / Dragon's Tail / Calcaria

  • Harpies claim some of the mountainous isles of the boreals and tail.
  • Minotaurs grow Margaritari into a great port, gateway to the Vasileia.  Their neighbors repeatedly don't like their tarrifs and influence, and make war on them.  Usually the attackers lose, but even when they manage to sack the city a bit, it is retaken and restored.

Non-specific

  • Pyxis moves around, generally held by short-lived bearers, often blew themselves up, brough disaster on those they were trying help, or gained enough ire that they were squashed.  This chain ends with ???, the extorter.
  • The Jewel passed through (chewed up and spat out might be a better term) a series gluttons, lechers, and mad hoarders.  Most were short-lived, but ??? hung on, becoming a vile and decadent legend in his own time.  He left many of his Treasure-Houses sealed within magical ice, containing his vast collection of concubines, servants, wealth, and objects of art and power.
  • A number of Wreath kingdoms rose and fell, some in the Vasileia, some in Potamia, some in Epolosia.  They tended to be brief, glorious, and unstable, built around a cult of personality, not sturdy law and common culture.
  • Amintah, long-standing Cornucopia holds her Mantle throughout the rest of the age.  The traditions of the Cornucopia's pilgrimages, and the fairs and traveling festivals that surround them, arise.  The Votaniko is formed from Epolosian scholars who accompany her (growing to include people from all lands).  "The Lords of Plenty" are a merchant combine that operates through the fairs and festivals, holding Amintah as their patron, giving to her causes.  Amintah's lover (the Bow and Quiver) establishes a tradition of games (athletic and gambling) within her pilgrimage.
  • The Threefold Covern carves out a nation.  Its mistresses are becoming increasingly Strange-corrupted and cruel.  They secretly eat mortal flesh at their ceremonies.

??? the cycle should happen a few times* Cult of the Three formed* Madaera becomes the Eye.* Madaera usurps the Wand from her mother, Crino.* A succession of Eyes come and go, some try to usurp Madaera and fail

747 PD - The Fall begins, Lords of Necessity are killed

  • Acrolonian dragons strike deal with Nexia and vanish, drakelings arise.  The Old Dragon of Pelithos seizes the Jewel from Warden ???, its former bearer.  It survives the Fall, while all other Pelithine dragons die out or mutate into lesser, drakish forms.

731 PD - Suns goes out Dark Age:

731 PD - Suns goes out

  • The divine realms of Pelithos crash down onto their mortal realm.  Erebus comes to be and temenoi are scattered over the land.  The ability to bind relic foci to mortals is lost, heralds cease to exist.
  • Achridana and Nexia (and Ankhara?) collaborate to develop reincarnation.  Achridana is able to craft several heraldic foci, which she gives to her inner circle of servants, the Achridanoi.  She has the depths of Taphos expanded to connect to Erebus.
  • metaphysical chaos is unleashed across Pelithos.  Imitheoi create havens around themselves, and refugees cluster around.  The titancults take in those who swear to their cause, protecting them within the vaultlands.  Elsewhere plagues, mutations, and madness wrack the land.
  • The first servitors begin inhabiting Pelithos, claiming domains for themselves as Archons, usually out of duty, to stabilize the collapsing Apparatus, but ambition and personal interests grow over time, and further rogues claim temenoi down the years.- A powerful cetacean life-servitor binds himself to the Chemaros river, taking its name.
  • Great numbers of stars fall on Pelithos, many guided by the titancults and fury-creatures so that they collect in the existing vaultlands, a marshaling of forces.  Some stray stars fall elsewhere- a great death star falls on Mavros, creating a new vaultland.
  • The Titanomachia erupts as the titans try to break open the vaults, deploying all their gathered power and forces.  The Imitheoi fight back.- The Key calls together the imitheoi on Mount Kyterios for a last ditch effort.  The Key is Enthroned and they pull a major temenos to the summit and enact a ritual to seal the vaults.  The imitheoi swear to answer the Key's Summons should this happen again.
  •  the defeated Dactyloi are forced to construct the Akropolis atop Mount Kyterios, a monument to the divine victory, a meeting place and neutral ground for their business, and a powerful temenos at which they can enact rituals.  Servitors of each domain are set to guard and steward it.- the founding of the Akropolis becomes the common reference the new kingdoms use to mark the passage of years on Pelithos.
  • Amintah tries to tend to the earth during the chaos, but her bond with the Cornucopia steadily weakens.  It deserts her in a time of stress and she perishes.  Her loss opens the way for even more chaos.  A series of short-term bearers hold it, each nowhere near ready to stem the disruptions, and soon abandoned by the Mantle.

716 PD - The Fall ends

  • Damastor's power protects the heartland of Alethia from disaster and mutation.  Humans of aletheia become so predominant (as so many others die off) that "aletheiad" becomes synonymous with human.
  • Myrmidons arise from humans mutated into ant-like form, a successful allaxe sub-species, dwell beneath the ground to escape the influence of the dark.  They are changed by highly unstable temenos in the eastern lands of Antolikos; it is now a major shrine of theirs, at the heart of their territory.
  • Great Migration of fey into the Strange Sea to escape the Fall and Endless Night- at least some members of almost all races go- all neriads go, becoming the tritons of the Court of Repose (and perhaps other forms in other courts)- the Threefold Coven goes, becoming the Court of Three, its members completing their transformation into hags- many satyrs go to the Laughing Court

  • Neriad nations split, some flee into the Strange Sea, becoming tritons and joining the Court of Repose.  Those who don't flee die out/mutate into allaxe, save for the kampoi, sheltered by the power of the vaultsea.
  • Elves and quicklings survive in Potamia.  The Loom foresees the perils of Night corruption.  She convinces the caretaker Pyxis to aid her, releasing his only Doom.  From the Third Lock of the Pyxis, the combinations discerned by the Loom, and the effects molded by the Sickle, is unleashed the Queensplague, shorting the lifespan of marrow fey who contract it to about twice that of a human.  Forced to a shorter-term outlook, combined with the Fall, shift them toward Reason from Memory, making them more like humans, giving rise to the Nimae and Velosi.  Something was released along with the Queensplague (perhaps its source?), it lairs in Potamia to the present day.

The caretaker Pyxis is killed by a grieving victim of the Queensplague who had lots their family (the plague is not perfect or safe).  The Pyxis passes to Tirigan Spiralhorn, a satyr.

  • Oriads escape massive Strange and Night corruption by hibernating as stones for long spans.  Dryads do likewise.
  • The Pythian empire drowns itself in its own blood as the Fall unleashes the tempered and suppressed instinct-minds (from Anyot's Curse) of its people.  Only lamia are immune.
  • Darklings arise from Night-corrupted quicklings.
  • Population of elves is transformed by dream encounter into maenads, tribes based around vestige patrons arise
  •  A population of Fury-infused titancultist elves lose their native form and become proteans, free-fleshed shapeshifting doppelgangers.  They're also Night corrupted murderous fuckers, a secret society of serial killers.  A rare but memorably awful allaxe sub-species.
  • Various small populations of mutants survive the plagues, madness, and corruption following the Fall.  They are collectively termed Allaxe.
  • Lysagoras is mortally wounded by titancultists.
  • the imitheoi learn to craft demi-foci.  These and relic foci can be used by anyone with suitable authority lore to access temenoi.  "Democratic" heraldry develops, allowing civilization to spread out from the sanctuaries of the imitheoi, stabilizing Pelithos.
  • New Cornucopia manages to hold the mantle at length.
  • The Oboloi and Nexia develop reincarnation.
  • The Naiads arise from the elven river-folk and the Archon Chemaros.

400 PD - Acrolonian invasion of Pelithos begins

  • scouting escalates from raiding and naval war
  • mass slaughter of tritons by Voice of the Wind at the Battle of Red Tide.  Some souls encounter Mother Night on the way to the underworld, follow her for revenge, becoming the vathys* The Trident's fleet is cornered by Acrolonians.  Upon his death, the Mantlestorm consumes the remnants of both fleets.  Young Salicar discovers the Trident in the aftermath.* Alethia is betrayed by the Viper and conquered by Acrolon, King Damastor is slain, dubbed the Hegemony of Pelithos.
  • with its triton allies broken, Trident's navy scattered, Acrolon has open access to the whole of Pelithos.  Big Isle and eastern Dytikos captured.* The Three begin collecting shadow lore, for power and to better understand their foe.
  • the Helm begins infusing his chosen centaur with Night, creating the Nyxian Centaurs

330 PD Invasion in full swing* Cornucopia loses the Mantle, unable to travel through Acrolonian territory.  Series of short-term bearers.

  • advance halted in the east of Antolikos by the Horn's creation of Erimia as a no man's land (acrolonian nobles hunt there (and are hunted), but can't press through with armies).  Margaritari and the Vasileia are subjugated.
  • advance halted in the southwest of Dytikos by the Oboloi's Curse of Asphodel, army of the dead brought forth* advance on Dytikos halted along the banks of Chemaros, held by the Aegis and Owl from Pyrgos.
  • Loom, Jewel, and Wreath kingdoms keep economy and industry alive, feeding the front lines; Wreath forms Symmachia Velos, alliance of cities
  • titancults and titan races join the struggle for Pelithos* the Viper is ganked by several imitheos in retribution for betraying Alethia.

  • Cornucopia is at last able to travel enough to hold the Mantle.  The old pilgrimages haltingly begin again.
  • Helm carves into the western Hegemony, conquers much of the Aplos west of Chemaros
  • Lamia infiltrate the lowlands near their mountains, both coast and plains.
  • Trident founds a nation in the Boreals, his captains as the new lords.
  • Night-heralds abandon the western Hegemony.  Many sail away in commandeered ships, eventually establishing themselves as the Corsairs of Nighthold.  The rest join the Helm or Mastigos.
  • Cult of the Three, Shadowguild, night-heralds, and non-demonblooded officers overthrow the Hegemony on Big Isle in a coup.  The surviving Manu Amantis flee into the wilds of Antolikos.
  • dragons begin returning (Big Isle, Vouna Fidion, Ekatharisi?, Opagos?  Kyterian Wastes? Mavros?)  A young dragon joins up with the new government in Big Isle.
  •  Triune helps topple Caduceus to free up a Throne, Epolosus is wracked by plague and seeded by Asphodel, many flee.  Theagonas back to normal.
  • Helm goes after the Spear, trying to stabilize his Throne by removing the other Enthroned Reaver Mantle.
  • Mask backs the quiet revolutionaries in Tapiseri, playing out a tale of the fall of thalestris?
  • Danae claims the Aegis, comes to Pyrgos to apprentice to the Owl.  He's kind of torn up about this.
