Overview
Foamglass (Enchiridian is named for a crystalline glass found in its waters. Lore about Foamglass is incomplete and inaccurate. It is riddled with myths and legends, particularly concerning the deeproot and two ruined settlements.
History
In the early Shattered Age, this island was known as Rutheim (Nortongue \ˈruthaɪm\ for root home). In the Dark Age, this island became known as Radixia (Imperial, \ˌreɪˈdɪksiə\ for root land).
There is a southern ruin of a Shattered Age village that was overcome by deeproot. There is also a northern ruin of a Dark Age town that was overcome by deeproot. Both ruins are riddled with mysterious worm creatures.
Populations
Foamglass has a population of 2900 from a single town off the western coast. The town is built on an artificial stone foundation that connects to the island by a stone road bridge, in order to keep distance between the settlement and the deeproot.
Geography
The island has three major terrains. The eastern region is a grassy wetland. The southwestern region is a scree field. The rest of the terrain is a grassy plain. However, the entire island is overgrown with deeproot, a mysterious plant that grows impossibly quickly under any conditions. The edible root makes building on the island nearly impossible, which is why the only town is built on an artificial foundation in the Jade Passage.
Economy
The island is primarily settled to harvest foamglass (substance), a mysterious crystalline sand that can be smelted into a light glass as strong as metal. However, the island also produces enough fish to feed itself. It also has deeproot, which while not highly valued, is nearly endless in supply. They have to import building stone, timber, and produce.
