The superstitious crew of the "cursed" Mercy's Wake.
A Brine Storm forces the party to port.
A surly drunk named "Redface" cordially invites the party to a bar brawl.

Toward the end of the week of research, Mala Shee arrived awkwardly at The Near Miss inn. She states that the weapon Daro constructed has proven to be extremely effective. She acknowledged the mortal custom of giving gifts on "anniversaries of gestational birth", and offered an exotic looking orchid to Daro. She explained that eating one of its four petals would give him perfect clarity on any task he was performing for several minutes. She also explained that the flower would only survive in the waking world for 10 days.

The party interviewed two available ships: Mercy's Wake and Silver Spear. Mercy's Wake was half the rate, but came with an eerie reputation. Both captains were quite eccentric in their own ways. Mercy's Wake offered a large, muscled first mate, while Silver Spear offered a first mate that was a Herald of Day. The party debated for a while, then chose to hire Mercy's Wake, under Captain Harlan Drift. Additional crew included Gruk, the heavily-scarred and generously muscled orc, Lisa Quickfin, the ship's navigator, and twins Venn and Cori, the ship's riggers.

The party sailed for their destination: Solmira, the capital city of Kopakita Island in the far southwest of the archipelago. However, their progress was interrupted by an unseasonable Brine Storm, supernatural storms like hurricanes that normally only occur in the Summer month of Firewatch, and usually only once a year or so. But this storm was the third this year, and happened in the first week of Dreamrise.

The panicked crew made for the nearest safe harbor: Saltport on the island of Dustmere. The harbor was chaotic, with many ships and ship-owners trying to secure their ships and cargo. The party was ushered off of the ship into a village storm shelter, which was standing room only. After a long and sleepless night, the village left the shelter to see the village and harbor in shambles. The ships were all damaged, some completely destroyed, and the village had been severely flooded by the storm surge, pulling enormous debris into the harbor. Until the harbor was cleared and Mercy's Wake was repaired, the party wasn't going anywhere.

The first morning the party was press-ganged into helping clear the harbor. They were able to prepare adequately, however, and unlike most of the laborers, the party avoided exhaustion with proper food, water, and tools. They were even able to negotiate a bit of compensation for their efforts. While working on rowboats in the harbor, the party noticed some of the laborers were actually looters. After debating the morality of the situation, the party decided to dissuade the looters from their looting, and successfully did so.

Finally, after a long day of work, the party joined the rest of the village in the taverns for some rest and relaxation. Unfortunately there were a few surly individuals, particularly a burly drunk named Ruddik "Redface" Barleymoor, took issue with the party. Complaints included things like "they obviously shirked their duty" (simply because they weren't exhausted thanks to better preparation), "bet they were some of the looters" (simply because the party includes a Lascivian), and "they even got paid" (simply because the party negotiated with the harbor sergeant better than others).

The bar fight was inevitable, lengthy, and raucus. Tables were smashed, ale was spilled, pots were flown, and people were tossed out of windows. But the party managed to come out all still standing, with Redface and almost a dozen sailors all knocked out.
