Overview

Fey Gods (Commonspeak) are named for their association with the Fey Courts, which are semi-divine, semi-social organizations in the Strange realm of Arcadia. Lore about Fey Gods is more common than other Strange Gods, since Fey Gods often take an active interest in Mortals.

Each Fey God explores one of ten Strange Essences in a search for meaning: Action, Condition, Location, Orientation, Passion, Quality, Quantity, Relation, Substance, and Time.

History

Fey Gods arose from the Fey. The Fey, in turn, arose from Elven explorers that settled in Arcadia and were changed by The Strange realm.

Fey Gods came into existence gradually over the course of the Shattered Age. They came about when individual Fey reached a profound enlightenment surrounding some philosophical idea about where meaning comes from.

The first Fey Gods were associated with the three Ancient Courts, which were founded in the early Shattered Age, between NIR 200 and NIR 400. Later, the seven Shattered Courts were formed by a younger generation of Fey Gods, between NIR 800 and NIR 1000. These made up the ten original Founding Courts. The Founding Courts did not come in Bright or Bleak varieties.

During and after The War of Erasure, which spanned the late Shattered Age and early Dark Age between NIR 1100 and NIR 1350, there was tremendous turmoil among the Fey Courts. One Ancient Court was eradicated. The other two deeply changed. Two Shattered Courts were dissolved, and another was split into two by a schism. At the same time, there was a mass migration of Elves from Pelithos to Arcadia, called The Midnight Road. All of these changes resulted in there being 18 Midnight Courts in the early Dark Age, nine Bright and nine Bleak.

In the middle Dark Age, four of the Bright courts tried to form an alliance that would strengthen their courts and protect them from future philosophical warfare. Unfortunately, the ritual, called The Concordance, had extreme and unforeseen consequences. The four Bright courts fused together in pairs. Simultaneously, their four opposing Bleak courts fused together in opposite pairs. This led to the transformation of eight of the Midnight Courts into four Harmonic Courts.

The modern Fey Gods are 20 in number, grouped into 10 Midnight Courts and 4 Harmonic Courts.

Cosmology

Fey Gods are cosmologically very similar to other Strange Gods, gaining access to incredible power through some Strange insight or enlightenment. In the case of Fey Gods, this enlightenment is the result of a philosophical insight around the source of meaning, which all Fey crave.

One thing that differentiates Fey Gods from other Strange Gods is their obsessions. Each philosophical exploration is embodied by an obsession that the Fey God has, which is shared by those in their court.

Society

Fey Gods are tightly integrated with Arcadian society, making up both the governing body and the divine authority of Arcadia.
