With the compass secured, the party set out to hire a ship. Brynja stated that the ship would need to make a stop at three separate minor islands: (1) a 300 mile journey to the bay of Skeldheim, (2) a 120 mile journey to the Dragonspine Reef, and lastly (3) another 120 mile journey to northern end of Barrowhome. His memory of the islands contents was hazy, he said he hadn't been to any of these islands in "at least 100 years" - which seemed impossible, even for his age.
The party found four ships that were available for hire in the timeframe and region they were to travel. They passed on The Grey Eagle for being too rickety, Mistress of the Isles for being associated with House Viridian, and Fortune's Fool for being associated with a group called Mandragora, which Acantha was trying to avoid. Their shop of choice ended up being The Steadfast, the smallest and slowest of the ships, but the only one with ship-to-ship weapons. Its captain, Kaho "Three-Sheets" did not instill a ton of confidence, but the reputation for the ship to be reliable won out.
The party then travelled to the opulent Viridian Palace, Nyx having been summoned by her father. While the party was entertained by "Uncle Florian", Nyx was being questioned about why she had not attended lessons with The Master of Whispers as she was instructed. The true Master of Whispers attended the meeting and was not, in fact, the tutor Nyx had been studying with. Confusion led to frustration on the part of all parties, and Nyx was dismissed. Meanwhile Florian seemed interested in the party's adventuring life, having always wanted to be an adventurer. He narrowly missed an opportunity to join the party on their voyage before the party left the palace.
The party set sail on The Steadfast with Brynja on board. After five days at sea they reached the first island stop, a small jungle lagoon. Acantha took the form of a crocodile and scouted out the lagoon. Turns out the island had been turned into a makeshift hideout for a company of 20 or more pirates. The mapping stone that Brynja needed was being used as a fire pit in the enter of the camp. The party deliberated on how best to approach the encampment, and chose to land on the jungle side of the island and walk to the lagoon under cover of night.
They reached the fire pit near the mess house of the camp on the beach of the lagoon and it was empty. They began to clear and clean the mapping stone. As Brynja began bleeding onto the stone to start his mapping ritual, a sleepy camp cook stumbled out of the mess house. After a failed attempt to trick the pirate, the druids entangled him, and intimidated him into silence. Cowed, he went back into the mess house and began barricading the door with furniture. About 15 minutes later, the shrill sound of a whistle began ringing from the rudimentary chimney of the mess house. The muffled sound probably would not wake anyone from their slumber, but the lookouts at the distant tents likely had heard it, so the party prepared for battle.
