The party was able to take out the first lookout from a distance with ice and fire magic, before he reached the fire pit. Then half the party snuck up on the remaining lookout and took him out with arrows and daggers without waking any of the sleeping pirates nearby. Meanwhile, the other half of the party intimidated the pirate cook into silence. This left Brynja alone to finish the ritual. The old man drew in his spilled, diseased blood and set the magical compass in the bloody markings on the stone. It turned to a specific direction, and Brynja tattooed a reading into the skin on his arm, completing the ritual.
On the way back to the ship, Yemoja communed with the Telar of the island, which manifest as a snake in a large kapok tree in the jungle. The Telar shared a fascinating history of the island. It said that it used to be a single island, but the island was shattered long ago (over 1000 years) - and that Brynja was there when the magic shattering ritual was performed! Furthermore, Brynja returned many times over the centuries to use the magical stone on the beach of the lagoon. The last time was about 100 years ago. The Telar says that when the magic mapping ritual is performed, it can briefly sense the three other parts of itself - four islets in total that made up the original island.
When the party questioned Brynja about his past, he seemed surprised at the questions, but confessed that the four islets were part of a single island, the heart of his pirate kingdom long ago, before he was cursed by "three witches", one to die, one to live, and one to break his home into four pieces. Sensing the numerological significance, Gellardia communed with The Stygians one night about Brynja. They confessed that the old man was even older than they were, harkening all the way back to the Shattered Age. While his origins were older than the dreams that The Stygians could read, they knew of one modern dream that spoke of Brynja's past: the myth of the Immortal Pirate King.
The party continued to the second islet, which was nestled in the chaotic growth of the Dragonspine Reef. The party helped the crew navigate the dangerous waters, sustaining minimal damage to the hull, which the party agreed to reimburse the captain for once they got back to port. Once on the island, the party realized that they had limited time to find the mapping stone. The island was carpeted in some kind of humid, steamy fog from Fury corruption. The flora was an overgrown jungle of giant aloe-like plants, while the fauna of the island were corrupted turtles that constantly leaked a thick, sticky sort of sap. Thankfully, the party was able to find the ancient building that housed the mapping stone before they were infected by the Wandering Fog sickness.
In the structure, the party found that Brynja had set up a trapped mechanism that locked the way to the mapping stone. Unfortunately Brynja's failing memory meant that the party had to solve the logic puzzle that blocked the way: arranging colored stones in the correct order based on Brynja's partial memory of the solution. Once the party solved the puzzle, they gained access to the mapping stone, where Brynja performed the ritual and tattooed another coordinate into his skin. Then the party sailed onward.
