This category enumerates the most powerful creatures of the Strange Origin.

Overview

Strange Gods (Commontongue) get their name from their association with the Strange Origin, and its unknowable nature. Lore about Strange Gods varies, but is generally rare and incomplete. What little is known about them comes from scholars of Strange.

History

Strange came into existence during The Shattering. The first Strange Gods to emerge were the Eldritch Gods, which seem to be as old as Strange itself, all coming into existence together soon after The Shattering. Later, the Lost Gods came into existence, one by one, over the centuries of the Shattered Age and Dark Age. The last Strange Gods to exist were the Bright Gods and Bleak Gods, which came into existence soon after the beginning of the Dark Age.

Cosmology

Strange Gods all get their power through some kind of deep connection to Strange itself. This has been described as being a "perspective" or a kind of enlightenment. The nature of their powers seem to be connected to their Strange obsessions which define their natures.

  • Eldritch Gods: Are obsessed with perception, cognition, and physicality - the essence of being.
  • Lost Gods: Are obsessed with purpose, a role to play to make sense of a broken universe.
  • Bright Gods: Are obsessed with meaning - emotion, beauty, and experience to feel whole.
  • Bleak Gods: Are obsessed with costs - sacrifices, burdens, and duties to justify existence.

Society

Strange Gods do not have a uniform society.

Ecology

Strange Gods share traits by being Strange: they are endless, sleepless, and do not interact with existence in a coherently consistent fashion.
